Linda Ekiss Memoral Scholarship

The Linda Ekiss Memoral Scholarship was created to honor Linda Ekiss, a former member of the Learning Disabilities Association of the Ozarks. Upon her sudden death a scholarship fund was estabilished by her friends and family. LDA of the Ozarks honors her memory by annually granting a $500 scholarship. The scholarship is given to a graduating or postsecondary student with learning disabilities from the Southwest Missouri area who can meet entrance requirements at the postsecondary school of their choice.

Application deadline is April 15th each year.
The recipient will be notified on May 10th.

Application Procedure

  1. Complete an application form; it may be typed, handwritten, taped, etc.
  2. Send a copy of the student’s current or most recent I.E.P.
  3. A one-page cover letter from a teacher, counselor, or school administrator answering the question:
    “Why do you think this student should be awarded the Linda Ekiss scholarship?”
  4. Three letters of recommendation from counselors, LD teachers, classroom teachers, employers, clergy, friends, etc.

After completing A, B, C, and D, please mail to:

Finalists will be interviewed by phone.

Selection Criteria

  • The student’s strengths.
  • A measure of the student’s motivation.
  • The student’s non-academic activities and interests.
  • The nature of the student’s learning disability.
  • The student’s transcript.
  • SAT or ACT scores for any applicant to a traditional four year institution.
  • Financial needs will be considered in case of a tie.
  • In case of a tie, family and students of LDA of Missouri-Ozarks Affiliate members will be given preference.
  • Scholarship recipients may reapply after successful completion of their first year.
